Dancing on the bus...

As i was sat on the bus listening to my music, 'enjoying' a 45 minute journey into Cheltenham town centre, i suddenly recalled a time when i was sat on another bus, at another time, in another place. A group of kids, surely not old enough to truly remember the full influence of Queen began innocently humming Bohemian Rhapsody, sure thing, one of their group actually knew the words and begins singing. The next thing i know, the entire bus has burst out in song (including the bus driver!), we successfully sung an extended, but feasible, cover of the ultimate Queen song. As the song came to an end everyone laughed and cheered and within 5 minutes the bus had returned to its normal state of pale disinterested murmuring and obtuse jeers. This was on of the most surreal moments i have ever known, like something out of a modern musical... (This did actually happen!)

Of course i have always had a twisted and skewed view on reality when listening to my music, it may just be that i am strange, or many others could see the world as i do but no-one i know would ever admit to it. For example, when travelling through Tewkesbury town centre on the delightful public transport the 'Time Warp' suddenly begins to play, suddenly everyone synchronises their movements to the music, and i have a mild hallucination of the persons of the 41 to Cheltenham suddenly wheeling round in time to the music, some even go so far as to begin dancing... twirling in the gangway as they get off...

Of course i try to stifle a laugh, but everyone has of course seen this display of lack of control and is now intently staring at the snickering young girl in the corner. I desperately try to contain myself, and tightly strap my hand and feet down to prevent spontaneous tapping and possibly worse, dancing! Later on Grandaddy come on, a lesser know song is played from the sound track of 28 Days Later, I suddenly am plunged into an observer state, and begin to wonder how all these people in their lines of cars, carrying their shopping and dragging their kids backwards and forwards, day in and day out, cope. I know i have trouble sticking to a rigid routine without wanting to be spontaneous and break out, run off and and have an adventure, and believe me i'm a little obsessive about routines sometimes.

I ask you one thing, next time you use public transport or are in a public place, cafe or shopping mall, where ever, and you are listening to music, pull your reality out of focus and let the music merge with the view. You never know you may like it, and realise that like is just one big dream. But please, stop yourself before you begin laughing hysterically because the waitress is dancing to YMCA or joining in, you'll only find yourself dragged off to the funny farm!

Have fun people!
